Nate started working at Old Town Music in January of 2015, after finishing a three-year apprenticeship under luthier Ryan Thorell (www.thorellguitars.com). At Thorell Guitars, Nate was involved in almost every aspect of acoustic guitar construction, from milling rough lumber and bending sides to fretwork and spraying high-gloss finishes. Nate also worked alongside Ryan in repair and restoration of high-dollar vintage instruments.
Before working for Ryan Thorell, Nate attended the Roberto-Venn School of Lutherie in Phoenix, Arizona. During his time at Roberto-Venn he built one acoustic guitar and one electric guitar as a course in guitar construction, and was then taught the basics of instrument repair.
After leaving Utah and ending up in Portland, Nate set up shop in a building just a few blocks from Old Town Music. In his work space, he builds guitars of his own design and performs some of the more time-consuming and difficult repair jobs.
Having worked in both guitar construction and guitar repair, Nate is efficient and detail-oriented. Whether you need a basic setup, fret job, wiring, or structural repairs, we’ve got you covered.
